Track 03 – Introduction Talk

Hey, I considered saying this sooner. Can you stop treating me like a child?

It’s been a while, how you’ve been doing? I’ve been good. It’s not been so long a time but do you remember Kanagawa(1)? Uh? Have you forgotten? Eh? You want me to teach you about it? Hey, are you seriously older than me? Shouldn’t you be more reliable? Uh, no, I’m not upset. Okay, I’ll teach you. I’m gonna explain so listen well to what I say till the end. Let’s see, where should I start? In Kanagawa there are plenty of places to see. There’s  Yokohama, Kamakura, Hakone, Odawara. Mmmm… I know, I’ll tell you about the one that you’re most interested. I see, then it’s Yokohama first(2).

[01:21] You know already that Akarengo Soko(3) and Yamashita Park(4) are popular dating spots, right? Hm? So you’re interested, huh. Is there someone you wanna go on a date with? No, nothing. Pretend I said nothing. I’ll go on. Since Yokohama is bay area the night view is pretty. Besides in the China Town you can eat some really good food. I go there once in a while because of my job. There’s a lot of good places, next time I’ll take you there. Other tourist site might be Minato Mirai 21(5). I go there whenever the weather is fine. It’s nice to stand there doing nothing aside watching the sea. It’s mostly for couples, though. Uh, I could go with you. Only if I’m available, okay?! I’ve been very busy with my work lately. Although that's not what we're discussing here.

[02:38] Then there’s Kamakura(6). Kamakura, the same as Naraya and Kyoto, is a place where politics thrived. Besides it’s famous for being the place where the first shogunate of Japan was settled. It has many temples and shrines still on service. Since it’s close to the sea it is very visited during summer by bathers. Enoshima(7) is also a popular dating spot. When I want a change of pace I go there. If you wanna go I can be your guide. There are a lot of cats in Enoshima. It’s a cat lovers spot. N-no, I go there for a change of pace only, not for the cats. Uh? It’s true! Talking to you has no use. Eh? No, I don’t mind it.

[03:40] Anyway, next it’s Odawara(8). I like the Odawara Castle(9). Odawara and Kamakura are a must to all history lovers. Odawara is also very famous for its cherry blossoms; therefore I believe it makes a nice view if you go during spring.

[03:57] Finally there’s Hakone(10). You can go there in one train from Shinjuku. It’s famous for its landscape. If you don’t have a car there’s transportation available to make the landscape appreciation easier. It also has several onsen so you can stay for the night. Something like that is Kanagawa, remember now? If not then let’s go out so you can remember. When you’re free of course. I’ll make as much time as possible so let me know whenever you can come to Kanagawa. I’ll be waiting.

(5) Minato Mirai 21 – Often known as simply Minato Mirai, is the central business district of Yokohama. Initially developed in the 1980s, Minato Mirai 21 was designed as a large master-planned development and new urban center planned to connect Yokohama’s traditionally important areas and commercial centers of Kannai and the Yokohama Station area.

(6) Kamakura – It was the principal city in the Kantou region during the Heian period. Between 1185 and 1333, the shogun of the Minamoto clan governed Japan during the Kamakura Period.

(7) Enoshima – A touristic site in which you will find a lighthouse, called the Enoshima Sea Candle), botanical gardens, a shrine set in a natural stone cave, as well as a shrine for worshipping a sea goddess. On the shore across the bridge of Enoshima, the popular Enoshima Aquarium can also be found.

(8) Odawara – is a major commercial center for western Kanagawa Prefecture. Odawara is also a bedroom community for Yokohama and Tokyo. In the Odawara Castle there are more than a thousand different cherry blossoms what makes it the ideal place to enjoy ohanami.

(9) Odawara Castle – is a landmark in the city of Odawara in Kanagawa Prefecture. In 1938 the castle site was proclaimed a national historic monument.

(10) Hakone – Is historically known because the Kamakura Period was a post station on the Toukaidou highway connecting with Tokyo. Nowadays is a well-known touristic spot because of the multiple touristic centers and Onsen.]

Track 04 – Letter from Takara to you

Photographer: Takara, could you look this way?

Takara: Yeah.

Photographer: Just like that. Nice.

Takara: Today we had the photo shooting for the catalogue of the most recent winter collection of the brand I represent. The hairstylist fixed my hair, the make-up artist did my make-up, I changed clothes and went back to the shooting. Today’s star wasn’t me but the clothes. I had to wear the clothes in a way the people watching the pictures wanted to look like that. *shutter* The shutter echoed inside the room. The same scenario as always.

Photographer: We’ll change the angle next. *Takara changes position* Very good, turn your face a little.

Takara: Like this?

Photographer: That’s great. Don’t move.

[01:19] Takara: It’s my first time as a model, I still have a long way to go but I feel lately I’ve gotten the gist of it. My initial reason to take on this job is clandestine, I couldn’t tell anyone. During the interview I kept my answers simple. I wonder if one day I could tell the real reason why I became a model.

Photographer: Okay, let’s take a break. The pictures are great, Takara.

Takara: Thank you.

Photographer: Okay, we’ll resume the shooting in 20 minutes, once the next setting is ready.

Takara: Got it.

Takara: The shooting is going well. We’re taking a break now. Eh? *he takes seat* I like this job I feel it’s worthwhile. However, somewhere inside my chest there’s a hole. I ignore the reason, though.

Rina: Ah, Takara-kun.

[02:43] Takara: Rina? Rina, who’s in a photo shooting in another studio came in.

Rina: What kind of reaction is that? Even though you’re younger than me you’re rather insolent. Won’t you say something like “Waaaaaai, is Rina-san! The popular model I admire!”?

Takara: No, I have no intention of saying such things.

Rina: You’re so not cute. Geez…

Takara: Thank you for your hard work. The shooting went just fine. We’re done for the day. There’s only left going home after changing clothes. Should I buy supplies for the letter in my way back?

[09:43] Photographer: Ah, Takara. Do you have a minute?

Takara: Uh, yeah. What’s the matter?

Photographer: Did something happen?

Takara: Eh? No, not at all.

Photographer: Oh, I see.

Takara: Eh, why do you ask?

Photographer: Oooh, haha. It’s maybe my imagination.

Takara: Your imagination?

Photographer: Today your countenance was gentler than usual. I thought maybe something good had occurred.

Takara: Gentle countenance?

Photographer: Yeah, you could say you had an aura of kindness around you. It’s an expression never seen in you before.

Takara: What kind of expression do I always have?

Photographer: Ummm… I suppose it would be a cooler one. Good or bad you reflect yourself, hence your expressions tend to follow a pattern.

Takara: Thanks for today’s effort. My expression became gentler? There can be one reason only. It’s because I was thinking of her. After thinking of her I felt like that hole somewhere inside me filled. It must be because I might like her.

[11:48] Takara: When I arrived home I went to the long forgotten desk. The supplies I bought after work are displayed in front of me. Nothing comes to mind in the critical moment. I realize I’m starting to shrink back. Should I simply give up? Even though I’m often told that I’m strong when it comes to her I become a coward. This is so unlike me. I’m the same as Rina.
