“You won’t run away from
me again Lysander!”, said I to myself filled with conviction as I stealthy
entered the boys' locker room. To avoid an embarrassing incident as the previous
one in which instead of meeting with the glorious tattoo of certain two
color-eyed boy, I met with the bruised back of the dullest guy in the entire
institute, I made sure that nobody else was in need of changing clothes. Just
as last time, I find my way inside the metal locker and waited for the only one
who was still wearing the sports clothing. I was starting to feel anxious of
being inside such a reduced and uncomfortable space when at last the sound of
steps resounded. Immediately I knew it was Lysander coming; the confident yet
reserved and brief steps made it easy to figure. From behind the lockers door I
watched waiting the boy to reach my range of vision, then, voilà! there he was,
stripping solemnly. First, he took off the jacket tied up around his waist. For
a moment I almost wished for Lysander to be more like his best friend, Castiel,
for sure the red-haired boy would strip in less than a second… “Wait, no, it
can’t be!” Castiel! I’d totally forgotten about him! As I was peeping who
entered and who left the room, I was so absorbed in not to lose sight of anyone
that at the end I failed to notice the fact that the sarcastic guy hadn’t shown
at all. He’d certainly get in at any time to change his clothes, and acute as
his senses always were, the possibilities of being exposed would dramatically
increase. I had trusted Lysander’s cluelessness, but all my confidence was now
being threatened by Castiel. Thus, just as if my thoughts had called him,
faster than the blink of an eye, there he was, at the locker room’s entrance,
with eyes fixed on his friend.
—Castiel, I thought you
were already changed.
The sardonic guitarist
showed one of his characteristically ironic smiles.
—I got a great idea —said he, while getting closer to his friend.
—Could you explain
yourself further? —asked, evidently bewildered, the white-haired boy.
Castiel broaden his
smile and taking the other boy by the shoulders, pushed him against the locker
in which I was hidden. I jolted, “What’s happening? Why is Castiel being this
weird?”, I could not grasp the meaning behind his actions. And now, I wasn’t
even able to see anything other than a white-haired head pressed against the
door. The room fell silent. Neither of them spoke a word, but… no… the room was
not completely silent. A sound could be heard, a familiar sound. One I would
never have imagined to hear inside the boys' locker room and much the less
coming from Castiel and Lysander… it was the sound that lips produce when they
intertwine. The sound made by two people kissing. I covered my mouth with both
hands to help myself from squealing in my surprise. “I was here to see a tattoo
and I’ve ended up discovering such a scandal!”, thought I all embarrassed,
confused and impressed.
—Castiel, what’s the
meaning of this? Anyone could enter in this very instant and find out about us.
I remind you, we’re at the institute and the classes are not over yet —asserted
Lysander, releasing his lips from the rushed kiss.
—Isn’t it the more
exciting this way? —the daring red-haired explained— besides, I’ve been waiting
in the schoolyard until everyone was out of the gym, so there’s no one around,
we’re safe.
The guitarist ran his
fingers through the whitish hair of his friend, holding it tight. Then, he
pulled his head closer to his to silence any possible argument with another
fierce kiss. I could tell the distance of their bodies was gone for the
peculiar rustling the fabrics make when rubbing with one another. Their
breathing was beginning to turn into soft pants. I backed against the wall and
closed my eyes tightly. I could feel my face ablaze. “What am I to witness!?”
—Is there someone left
in the locker room? —called a voice, echoing from outside. It was Boris’ voice,
the new sports teacher. I continued to cover up my mouth tightly, only this
time it was to prevent a sigh of relief from coming out.
—Tsk. Yeah, Lysander and
I are still changing —shouted Castiel, quite angry.
—Hurry up. It won’t be
long before the next class arrives.
—Damn! I wasn’t counting
that another class would start right after ours —said the sassy boy.
—Didn’t I tell you it
was parlous doing such a thing in here?
—But it’s worth the
risk. I was able to taste that old-fashioned mouth of yours —objected he, taking
from his partner another fleeting kiss before heading to his locker.
The guitarist was back
to his regular clothes in the blink of an eye. Contrary to his companion, who
carefully unfolded his clothes in order to avoid any wrinkles before even
starting to undress himself. By the time Castiel was ready to jump out of the
room; Lysander had only finished to tighten his trousers and was now fixing
some sort of outdated undershirt. His clothes were not merely designed to
resemble Victorian style, no! They were indeed a perfect Victorian outfit.
—If it comes a day when
you finish dressing up before I do, I swear I'll quit smoking —remarked
the red-haired teasingly.
Lysander smiled serene
as ever —that I would like to see.
Castiel shortened the
distance in between, and to my big surprise, began to caringly fix the frills
of his partner’s shirt. Once Lysander was over with his coat, they both
exchanged a look of intelligence and out they went, turning off the lights as
they left.
I jumped out of the locker faster than light and I uncovered my mouth at last. It remained open for a while after. I stayed there, waiting for them to get ahead of me, attempting to reduce my chances of being exposed down to zero. When I finally headed to the schoolyard, I ran into Castiel, who was about to enter the gym again. I couldn’t refrain myself from turning all red nor from averting my eyes away from his.
—What’s the deuce with
you?
—No…nothing —I answered,
still averting my gaze. I couldn’t face him without recalling what I’ve just
witnessed minutes ago.
—You’re way too freaked out…
what were you doing in the gym? —he inquired, suspiciously.
—I… was looking… looking
for the professor! But he is not there, so I’m leaving —I told him, flustered
and ready to disappear into the school building.
—Wait there!... Haven’t
you seen… —my heart skipped a beat at his words, “has he noticed that I found
out about ‘them’? — Lysander’s notebook? —as soon I heard these last words my
heart was able to beat again.
Considerably relieved I
told him I hadn’t and swiftly took my leave, taking with me the brief sight of
Lysander’s tattoo and the strong conviction of not telling, ever, to anyone the
secret in the locker room that they, unwillingly and unknowingly, from now
onwards would share with me.
